Head Master "Hud' has extensive training background in the Old Traditional Korean martial arts - Hwarang expanding 45 years since 1967, and over 41 years of teaching of Hwa Rang Mul Sul®, the Korean Sul-sa Martial Arts system, advance Korean Seon Yoga, and Seon Meditation in North America, and Korea. Head Master "Hud" has been well respected as a International Judge/Referee throughout North America, and has trained top fighters for competition through the World of Korean tournament fighting, weapons, and Hyungs(Patterns) at the World, and National Championships during the 1980's, and 90's.
Head Master "Hud" is the highest authority, and ranked head master world-widefor the Hwa Rang Mul Sul® system, and President/Founder of The Korean Hwarang Martial Arts Federation internationally.
Head Master "Hud' has gone through an extensive training program of Hwarang in the mid 60's in Korea under a high level Master of Hwarang, Master Kim, Cheung L., who is the son of the Grandmaster Kim, Kwang K.(Korean Ancestral Family name - Kim), and their ancestry of warriors going back to the period of the Shilla Dynasty in Korea as Hwarang Warrior Knights, and the Grandmaster using a Japanese name(during that period of time of Japanese occupation did not allow the use of Korean family names) lead a resistance group of night fighters against the Japanese during the occupation of Korea by the Japanese forces/government, the Japanese name is still being used by the family of the Grandmaster today, and they are carrying on the old tradition of night fighters against the North to protect the South Korean People, and their country from the communist North Koreans.
Head Master "Hud" obtained his Sam Dan - 3rd Dan Black Belt from Master Kim, Cheung L. at the end of 1969 in Korea.
Head Master "Hud" returned to North America, and opened the first ever Hwarang dojang in North America, and established the headquarters of Hwarang in Vancouver, B.C. Canada in 1970, and became a legend, and pioneer in keeping the pure art of Hwarang alive. Head Master 'Hud' is the highest authority and rank of the Hwarang from Korea having a dual citizenship to both United States, and Canada. During this time Head Master "Hud" established, and founded The Canadian Hwa Rang Federation of Canada®, and becoming the President/Founder, and the highest authority & ranked head master in Canada, and United States for the Hwarang system. Head Master Hud established and founded the new name of Hwa Rang Mul Sul® (Flowering Knights Martial Arts) in 2003 when he opened The Korean Hwarang Martial Arts Federation in Washington State. Head Master 'Hud' is legendary in the pursuit of teaching the true traditional martial arts of Korea, and their customs, ideals of the old system of Hwarang as it was taught to him in Korea by his Master. Head Master 'Hud" is a hard core traditionalist, and legend of the old ways of over 4,000 years old of Korea's mother art of Hwarang now called Hwa Rang Mul Sul® system under Head Master 'Hud' of the Korean Sul-sa training by the infamous Hwarang Warrior Knights of the Shilla Dynasty known as Shadow Warriors of Korea. They were the heroes, and protectors of the Shilla Kingdom, and dynasty.
This has been Head Master 'Hud's life works for 45 years keeping this art of Hwa Rang Mul Sul pure, and alive through his legendary teachings, and training of this system as a very traditional old martial arts passed to him from his master in Korea with the customs, cultures, and traditions of South Korea from the Shilla Kingdom, and the courts of Hwarang Knights. Head Master 'Hud' has written a student, and instructor's training manuals since 1974 to keep this art alive after his life passes on to 'Happy Mountain' as Koreans would say.
Head Master "Hud" expanded his traditional teachings into the school board continuing education and night schools, then on into community centers throughout the Vancouver area, teaching the Hwa Rang Mul Sul® system to adults, young adults, children, and the physically challenge in wheel chairs, and to people who were blind. He also opened classes in Ladies Self-Defense, His N Hers Body Condition, Self Defense for the handicap, and Kids Martial Arts classes from 1976 to 1986, during this period Head Master "Hud" opened a full-time store front dojang in New Westminster, B.C., opening classes to the public 6 days a week, and with classes running 3 sessions each day at 3 hours each class. Then Head Master "Hud" expanded to a second store front dojang on Broadway in Vancouver above a ballet school.
After 14 years of teaching the Korean martial arts in 1984, Head Master "Hud" was finally given high recognition & acknowledgment for his high level teachings, and as a Yuk Dan - 6th Dan Black Belt in Hwarang by the Korean Ambassador to Vancouver, B.C., the Korean society as a whole, and many high level Korean Masters within the Korean Martial Arts World across Canada, South Korea, and the U.S. for his expert knowledge, teachings, expanded work as a legend in keeping the old traditional Korean Sul-sa Martial Arts of Hwa Rang Mul Sul® of South Korea alive, and it's old traditions as a rank of a high level Yuk Dan - 6th Dan Black Belt Head Master, and appointed in the Korean system of martial arts of the old.
Head Master "Hud" has written a traditional Hwa Rang Mul Sul® training manual for his students, and a instructor's manual to keep all information, history, training methods, techniques, old traditions, and customs of Korea alive within Hwa Rang Mul Sul® system past onto him from his Master. Head Master "Hud" has written many articles on the art of Hwa Rang Mul Sul® weaponry in local martial art magazines, and newspapers. He continues to write about the old traditional Korean Sul-sa system of Hwa Rang Mul Sul® to keep it alive for the future of his students, and the people of South Korea.
Head Master "Hud" has put on many public demonstrations, seminars, workshops, and summer camps on Hwa Rang Mul Sul®, and has demonstrated on many of the local television stations, and has been part of martial arts productions on T.V., and throughout Canada, and United States putting on displays of his inner Chi(Ki) skills of mind, and body.
Head Master "Hud's" biggest, and greatest honor was putting on a display for the Cancer Society of Canada for the late Terry Fox, who ran across Canada on one leg due to loosing one leg to Cancer, and his life. Head Master "Hud" presented Terry Fox with a Honorary Black Belt, and a dobok(uniform) in the Hwa Rang Mul Sul® system for his true dedication, and hard work he did for the Cancer Society, and fought his cancer right to the last breath of his life without giving up as being a member of Hwa Rang Mul Sul® system who would never give up, and would not say "I can't". Pure dedication, and self-discipline on his part until he died, which Head Master "Hud" believes in the old traditional way of training of pure dedication, discipline, and hard work in Hwa Rang Mul Sul® system as he teaches, and trains in his life.
Head Master "Hud' was the Director/Producer/Coordinator of the "All Traditional Korean Hwa Rang - Kung Fu - Karate Championships®" 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 - B rated by a top martial arts magazine. He has been an official judge/referee for many top tournaments across Canada, and United States. Head Master "Hud" was the Semi Contact Fighting Director for the West Coast Can Am Championship in the 80's. Head Master "Hud" was a demonstrating team member of the National Canadian Martial Arts Demonstration Team during the early 90's. He has put on demonstration for the National Hockey League intermissions half-time. Head Master "Hud" has also displayed his legendary high level skill with the art of the live sword of Korea (Gumdo), doing live cuts with cucumbers on the throats, hands, and a blind fold cut on a student's stomach with full control. He has demonstrated with many of the Top Martial Artists of Hollywood movies, Cynthia Rothrock, George Chung, to say a few.
Head Master "Hud's" past students have won many first place trophies at the "World Tae Kwon Do Championships", and the "National Tae Kwon Do Championships" in sparring, and hyungs(patterns). He has trained a group of students for the team fight, and they won second place in this same championship. Master "Hud" trained a Yee Dan - 2nd Dan Black Belt from the W.T.F., and this member won second place at The National Tae Kwon Do Championships in Montreal, Quebec, and Grand Champion Black Belt Fighting Division at Master Hud's tournament The All Korean Traditional Hwa Rang - Kung-Fu - Karate Championships® 1984, and this same student fought a kick boxer in a full contact tournament in the heavy weight division, and he won the fight in 3 seconds in the first round with a knock-out axe kick(outward spinning kick in Hwa Rang Mul Sul) to the head in the 80's, and winning many other championships throughout Korea, and North America.
Head Master "Hud" has trained many law enforcement officers, and Military personnel, and also taught at the Justice Institute with Hwa Rang Mul Sul® weapons/combat handcuffing techniques for the deputy sheriffs.
Head Master 'Hud' is a Polio survivor from the 50's, 1950 at the age of 16 months old, he, and his sister became ill with Polio as thousands of other young children across this country at that time. Both him, and his sister survived the Polio which gave him the attitude of never giving-up, and NEVER saying "I Can't".
Head Master "Hud" continues to pursue his purpose, and path in life to teaching, and keeping the old traditional Korean Sul-sa Martial Arts of Hwarang system alive for the country of South Korea, their people, and his master before him. Head Master "Hud" has been a Seon Buddhist since his training in Korea, and have continued the path of Buddhism with extensive studies of Korean Seon(Zen). Head Master "Hud" continues his path of Buddhism with extensive studies as a novice Korean Seon Buddhist monk, and his legendary ways of teaching within the art of Hwa Rang Mul Sul®, and it's traditions of the Old Korean Seon that was always been part of the old training, and foundation of the Hwarang Warrior Knights of the Kingdom of Shilla Dynasty.
Head Master 'Hud' is a 3 times martial arts 'Hall of Famer' inducted into the World Martial Arts League - 13th International Black Belt Martial Arts Elite Awards "Hall of Fame", receiving the American Hwa Rang Mul Sul Diamond Spirit Award in 2010, again inducted in 2011 into the Action Martial Arts Magazine 'Hall of Honors", receiving the Exemplary Contribution to the Martial Arts Platinum 45 Years award, the academy awards of the martial arts, and being the only Master from Washington state to receive these honors, and inducted, and wearing the Hall of Honors patch on his uniform.. Head Master "Hud' was inducted into the United States Martial Arts 'Hall of Fame' - July 2011 - Master Instructor at Dalles, Texas, and now wears a second round patch the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame on his uniform.
Head Master "Hud" has an extensive background in education in many fields that he has graduated from different schools, colleges, Certificate of Graduation from Art School in Illustration, Design & Cartooning, Associate Degree with Honors in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement (Forensic Major), Architectural Design & Technology Graduate, and Professional Photography Graduate from The New York Institute of Photography. Computer school graduate in Applied Computer Science, Visual Basic & Visual C++ Programmer, PC Repair. Master "Hud" has now been accepted to a well known Medical College with a full scholarship as a medical student in 2011 to continue his education in the Holistic, and Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Holistic Health Practitioner, and Master Herbalist for the next 3 years in this medical college, after graduation he will become board certified as a (HHP-MH) Holistic Health Practitioner, and Master Herbalist which he has plans to combined these teachings with Head Master Hud's Hwa Rang Mul Sul® into the dojang, and open up a clinic in natural holistic herbal health care, and wellness for the public.
Head Master Hud played football in school, and ran on the school track team, and receiving his letter in both football, and track during his earlier years in school. Head Master Hud has been a head soccer coach for kids from the age 6 years old to teens, and adults for many years.
Head Master "Hud" has extended his studies in Buddhism, and has become a Korean Seon Novice Buddhist Monk. He has traveled extensively throughout the Asian Countries. Head Master "Hud" has future plans to travel back to Korea, and China for more advance training in the Korean, and Chinese martial arts for the future of his teachings in the dojang.
Head Master "Hud" plans to continue to teaching, and never retire at any age..
