The art of Sunmudo(Royal Buddhist Monastery Martial Arts) is
also called Buddhism Gum Gang Yong Gwan by the monks, which represents Korean Seon(Zen) of martial arts that has been handed down from generations to generations of Buddhist Monks that can be traced back to the time of Buddha himself over 2500 years ago, or more.
Sunmudo was passed on through monks that traveled to Korea during the period of the three kingdoms, and into the Shilla Dynasty(57 BC - 936 AD). Sunmudo had a great influence towards the Hwarang Warrior Knights training in Buddhism, and their martial arts training of Hwa Rang Mul Sul. During the Kingdom of Goryo(918-1392 AD) the Sunmudo system was passed onto the Warrior Monks until the Gabo Kyongjang(Reform) of 1894 period of the Chosen Kingdom(1392-1910). The system of Sunmudo continues to be practice throughout South Korea by monks within the monasteries of today.
The Sunmudo system of training is a very methodic in it's teachings forms of esoteric Buddhism confined to a select few in a confidential circle of trainees, and masters, that has been passed down from one monk to another secretly through the centuries in the monasteries of South Korea. Sunmudo training does combined teachings to a eight fold path, and or chambers that do develop a four noble truths within a series of training movements of the body, mind, and spirit to higher levels for each disciple. Sunmudo has a combination training levels(Chambers) to obtain enlightenment with harmonizing the body, mind, and spirit as one to purify, and harmonize the levels of Karma body to perfection of oneself within the martial arts system of Sunmudo, which combines body, speech, and thought in the training program to the levels of spiritual process, and the ultimate higher levels of Nirvana.
The system of Sunmudo training combines forced Yoga, high levels of Chi(Ki) breathing techniques, practice of good health of mind, body, and spirit, and the art of Sunmudo with many levels(Chambers) of weapons to the secretive weaponry teachings. The teachings, and levels(Chambers) in hand, foot, and weaponry are very similar to the training of the Hwa Rang Warrior Knights within the Hwa Rang Mul Sul system, and Master Hud's teachings of today at The Korean Hwarang Martial Arts Federation® The different levels(Chambers) of Sunmudo combines stances, forced Yoga, hand, foot techniques, and weapons called Seon-jeong-in(Stances) which this level teaches 18 stances within this system of martial arts, and O-che-yu-bop(Seon Yoga), this training is combined with forced yoga levels of stability within the mind, body, and spirit.
